About Christians for Democracy
Christians for Democracy is a national campaign launched by Rev. Brandan Robertson to mobilize people of faith in the urgent struggle to resist and defeat the rise of authoritarianism in America.
Across our country, democracy is under siege. Emboldened by political power and cultural influence, authoritarian forces are on the march—reshaping institutions, silencing dissent, and targeting the most vulnerable among us. Alarmingly, many of these movements are cloaked in the language of faith, using the name of Jesus Christ to promote a distorted ideology known as Christian Nationalism.
Let’s be clear: Christian Nationalism is not Christianity. It’s a dangerous fusion of religious supremacy, white nationalism, and political extremism that betrays the heart of the gospel. Beneath its appeals to “Christian values” lies an agenda rooted in racism, sexism, queerphobia, and imperialism. It seeks not to serve, but to dominate. Not to love, but to control.
We say: Enough.
We are a growing community of progressive Christians who refuse to let our faith be hijacked by fear and hatred. We believe in a Jesus who stood with the marginalized, who preached liberation, who challenged corrupt powers with love and truth. And in His name, we are rising to reclaim our voice.
We are pastors and parishioners, activists and artists, parents and prophets. From church basements to city halls, from rural sanctuaries to digital pulpits, we are standing up and speaking out. We affirm a Christianity that champions justice, inclusion, democracy, and the inherent worth of every human being.
This campaign is our collective call to action:
To defend democracy against authoritarianism.
To confront the toxic theology of Christian Nationalism.
To build a faith-rooted movement for equality and liberation.
Christians for Democracy is not just a statement—it’s a movement. A witness. A resistance. Join us as we bear faithful testimony to a better way, grounded in the radical, redemptive love of Christ.
Our faith compels us. Our democracy demands it.
